EUREC Agency is the premier grouping of renewable energy research
centres in Europe.
Our 46 members are mostly public research centres and university
laboratories looking at R&D in the entire range of renewable
energy technologies, from the most established like hydropower
to the recently emerging like ocean energy. EUREC members
also focus on supporting technologies like energy storage,
buildings and grid integration, resource assessment and energy
efficiency. They cover both basic and applied research.
EUREC Agency has four strategic objectives, which are pursued
with a range of targeted activities and projects:
- To provide a platform for cooperation and coordination
between the multiple European players in renewable energy
research
- To support the cooperation between research and
industry in view of defining common research priorities
and fostering technological innovation in the renewable
energy sector
- To provide expert input to European decision-takers on
top related to renewable energy research
- To educate renewable energy professionals to support
the expansion of the sector
ProRETT is a EUREC Agency initiative in support of our objective
to foster technological innovation in the renewable energy sector.
Looking at the strong growth of the European renewable energy
industry that increased its turnover tenfold from 1.5 Bio EUR
to 15 Bio EUR between 1990 and 2004, one might get the impression
that technological innovation is happening smoothly in our sector:
it is mostly made up of technology-focused small and medium-sized
companies – most of which were inexistent 20 years ago.
However, we believe that we can still do much better: Research
results, especially publicly-funded results, often don’t
find their way into the market in forms of commercial products,
processes and applications. While the research base is solid
and professional, the bottleneck seems to lie in sub-optimal
exploitation of these research results.
Therefore, we have brought together technology transfer and
financing professionals and initiated the ProRETT platform
to get more public-funded R&D results quicker into the
market.
EUREC Agency staff involved in ProRETT:
Mario
Garcia
Mario is project manager at EUREC
and responsible for ProRETT’s daily management. His physics
background is helpful in understanding the technical elements
of innovation. The combination of a scientific education with
a thorough experience in project management at International
level is an asset in helping to bridge the gap between science
and market.
Katharina
Krell
Katharina is the Secretary General of EUREC Agency. She has
strengthened EUREC’s cooperation with industry and added
technology transfer to the Agency’s activity areas, initiating
the ProRETT project. Her background is in international relations
and business administration.
