Asesoría Industrial Zabala, S.A. has a wide experience in assisting and advising companies in the management of RTD and innovation activities, as well as on technology transfer projects. It is a consolidated RTD and Innovation consultancy firm working across Europe on these fields since year 1986. It provides on a contract basis regular advice on RTD and innovation management to a portfolio of 130 SMEs across Spain, being by far the first Spanish innovation consultant in terms of annual submission and approval of companies’ national RTD and innovation projects before the Spanish Innovation authorities: over 100 national RTD projects every year, from which some 25 RTD and innovation projects come from renewable energy companies.

During the decade from mid-eighties to mid-nineties (i.e. until the extinction of the SPRINT network), Asesoria Industrial Zabala was actively involved in this Technology Transfer Brokerage Network sponsored by the former DG XIII of the European Commission (EC contract C49). Moreover, it has planned, organised and monitored numerous “TT Days- Technology Transfer Days”, for the account of public innovation entities:

  • January 1989. TT Days hosted by the Business and Innovation Centre of Navarra. Spain.
  • 1995 January - May. Participation in the preparation of a Technology Transfer Days held in La Rioja (Spain) with the support of La Rioja Innovation Agency (ADER) and the former European sprint Programme.
  • 1995 June. Contracted by the former CDTI-value Relay Centre to provide assistance for the preparation, celebration and follow-up of “agro-food value days” in the Spanish regions of Navarra and La Rioja in order to validate and exploit European Programmes technology results.
  • 1999 March – 2000 November. Provision of technical assistance to the Navarra Business Innovation Centre for the preparation and holding of the 2nd and 3rd Co-operation and Technology Transfer Days.
  • In June 2002, the “Spanish Innovation week” (sponsored by the Innovation Policy Unit of DG Enterprise of the European Commission) was organised by Asesoría Industrial Zabala: 40 European co-ordinators of FP5 Demonstration projects from the Area of Innovation attended to this congress.

AIZabala started in 1998 its activity with Renewable Energies. It has nowadays 7 permanent clients from the RES field (both industries and research centres), as well as contacts with many other European and Spanish RES industries, centres and energy institutions and administrations. Main activities undertaken in this field are:

  • Participation as expert evaluators for several DG TREN energy calls for proposals under FP5 and FP6.
  • 1999-2002: Development of periodic External Assessments of the progress of the project untitled “Wind Energy Potential I” (WEP I), funded by the European Commission, under the Ecos-Ouverture programme.
  • 1999-2001: Co-ordination of a 7 partner Accompanying Measure within the EESD FP5, untitled “Accompanying Measure for the Integration of Renewable Energies into the Energy Systems” (AMIREES).
  • Submission of proposals, contract negotiation and management of renewable energy research and demonstration projects at FP4, FP5 and FP6: co-ordination and management of 14 retained projects. Additionally, submitting and managing some Altener and EIE projects.
  • Knowledge about state of the art in most RES technologies and policies: wind, photovoltaics, biomass, biofuels and hydrogen.

Juan Cristóbal García
Engineer
He works in Asesoría Industrial Zabala S.A. since 2005. He is consultant in Transport and in Renewable Energies. Technical assistance to technology centres and industries on the submission of Community and National proposals, which leads to the contract negotiation of one of the first CENIT projects. He has previously worked at the R&D departments at Alstom and Gamesa Eólica being in charge of the improvement of the R&D and Project Management processes. He is Black Belt in Six Sigma.


Juan Sanciñena
He is working in Asesoría Industrial Zabala, S.A. since 1997. He is consultant in Renewable Energies. Expert evaluator for the FP6-2002-TREN-1 calls for proposals “Area Sustainable Energy Systems. Large scale integration of Renewable Energy Sources into energy supplies”. Technical assistance to industries on the submission of 20 Community proposals on Energy RTD and Demonstration, which leads to contract negotiation and management of technical and financial reports of 14 EU funded projects (FP4, FP5, FP6).


Aitor Garro
Economist
He works in Asesoría Industrial Zabala S.A. since 1987. Expert on innovation financing and innovation tax incentives for the account of industrial companies. During all these years he has been especially involved in the co-ordination, definition, and submission before regional and national Innovation Authorities of more than two hundred Innovation and RTD projects from different industrial firms, mainly SME’s, looking for public financial aids.
